For a group project, I and four others: (David Lieber, Gus O'Brien, Luke Sharkey, and Mason Strange) were tasked with researching a brand and developing a theoretical product line as if we were a small collaborative studio. Our group settled on designing a simple, low-tech smart-home system for Muji. I was primarily responsible for existing product research and for the design of a smart alarm clock. The other products in the line were a smart hub, a task lamp, a speaker bar, and a portable projector.
Material/Form inspiration
Rough initial proposal sketch.
The initial concept was to tie several of the products together with a modular magnetic light system. We later abandoned that as it felt it was complex and unnecessary.
Quick physical prototypes to determine scale.
The dial could be pressed in and the outer ring rotated
